
Getting Your Oven Temps Under Control with Twin Quartz Heaters
If you’re running a deck oven that needs to switch heat on and off constantly, you know the real headache. It’s not about how hot the oven can get—it’s about how fast it bounces back after the power cuts. Most heaters are just too slow. They hang onto heat when you don’t want it and take forever to warm up when you do.
Why the speed actually happens
We solve this by using short-wave infrared and a halogen gas fill. Think of it this way: traditional heaters are like big heavy rocks that take forever to heat up. Our quartz tubes use a tiny tungsten filament. There’s hardly any mass there, so the second you flip the switch, you get full power. No waiting around. And that halogen gas? It’s there to keep the tube crystal clear. Without it, the tungsten would just evaporate and coat the inside of the glass in a cloudy film. Once that happens, your heat doesn’t get through and your response time tanks.
The trade-offs (because nothing is magic)
Switching power on and off a hundred times an hour is brutal on a filament. It’s basically a constant cycle of expanding and contracting. To stop the wires from just snapping, we’ve spent a lot of time dialing in the filament tension and gas pressure. But here’s the thing: since these lamps dump energy so fast, you have to be careful with your controls. If your PID loop is sluggish, you’ll blow right past your target temperature. You’ll need a fast-acting SSR (Solid State Relay) to keep up with the lamps. If the relay is slow, the heat is useless.
Making it last
We use reinforced quartz glass because thermal shock is a real killer. Constant on-off cycles would crack standard glass in no time. When you put these into a deck oven, you’ll notice the difference immediately. You can keep your temperature in a tight little window without that annoying lag you get with ceramic or metal heaters. It just works. If you need a system that recovers its heat the instant it’s needed, this is the way to go.
