
Getting Your Sidel Matrix Lamps Right
Here’s the deal when it comes to swapping out OEM lamps in a Sidel Matrix blower for third-party ones: the biggest headache is the temperature ramp-up. If the wattage is off or the light spectrum shifts, your PET preforms won’t heat up evenly. You end up with weird wall thickness or, even worse, bottles that just fail. It’s a nightmare you don’t want.
Why “Close Enough” Isn’t Good Enough
We don’t do “approximate.” When we build our replacement lamps, we mirror the original Sidel electrical and thermal footprint exactly. Voltage and wattage have to be spot on. We calibrate the tungsten filament density so the heat flux—basically, how much energy actually hits the preform—stays the same. Because the infrared emission spectrum is locked in, you get that same heating curve you’re used to. We stick to short-wave IR, which means the heat sinks into the PET quickly instead of just warming up the machine frame.
No Rewiring, No Stress
These are true drop-in replacements. We use the same connector footprints, so you aren’t spending your afternoon rewiring the oven. We also use high-purity quartz glass. It stops the lamps from clouding over or burning out too fast when you’re running high-intensity cycles. And we’re obsessive about the size. Even a couple of millimeters of difference can put a weird strain on the mounts. When the machine starts vibrating, that’s when filaments snap. We make sure that doesn’t happen.
A Quick Heads-Up on Airflow
High-wattage IR lamps are great for fast cycle times, but they put a lot of pressure on your oven’s ventilation. If your cooling fans are clogged or acting up, even the best lamp in the world will overheat the housing. Just keep your airflow clear, and your lamps will actually last as long as they’re supposed to.
