
Stop Fighting Bathroom Mold With a Scrub Brush
Most of us think of bathroom heaters as just a way to stop shivering when we step out of the shower. But we wanted to build something that does a bit more. We designed our infrared lamps to tackle a much nastier problem: that stubborn mold that loves to hide in your grout.
How it actually works
Here’s the thing. Traditional heaters just warm up the air. Our units use short-wave infrared (SWIR), which works differently. Instead of heating the room, it goes straight for the surface. It basically shakes the water molecules on your tiles and walls, forcing that moisture to evaporate way faster than it would on its own. When your walls stay warm and dry, the dew point never hits. No condensation, no standing water, and—best of all—no place for mold spores to move in and set up shop.
Built for the steam
Bathrooms are basically torture chambers for electronics. Between the steam and the occasional splash, things break. That’s why we built these to IP66 standards. In plain English? They can take a beating from high-pressure water and thick steam without flinching. We used high-temp gaskets to seal everything up tight, so moisture never even gets close to the electrical guts. One heads-up, though: these lamps pack a punch. They pull a decent amount of power. If you’re plugging these into an ancient circuit with thin wiring, you’re probably going to trip a breaker. If you’re installing a few of these, just do yourself a favor and run dedicated lines. It’s safer and saves you a headache later.
Keep it clean
There is one catch. Because these lamps are so intense, they can be a bit picky about cleanliness. If soap scum or hard-water minerals build up on the quartz tubes, they create “hot spots.” That’s a fancy way of saying the glass gets too hot in one spot and can burn out. To stop that from happening, just give them a quick wipe-down with some isopropyl alcohol every few months. It takes two minutes, but it keeps the lamps running strong and keeps your bathroom dry.
