If you’re in PET bottle blowing or vacuum forming, you already know the drill: infrared lamps are basically consumables. They burn out. It’s just what they do. But here’s the problem. When a lamp pops on a live production line, everything stops. Dead silence. No throughput. To stop that from happening, a lot of plants panic-buy a mountain of expensive quartz tubes. They end up with thousands of dollars just sitting on a shelf gathering dust. That’s not a safety net—it’s dead cash. Let’s talk about the heat. Most of these machines need shortwave IR to get through the polymer fast. Whether you’re running 230V or 400V, it all comes down to wattage per millimeter. More wattage means your preforms hit the right temperature faster, which means you can speed up your cycle times. But there’s a catch. Pushing that much power puts a lot of stress on the quartz. If your cooling fans aren’t up to the task, those filaments are going to snap way sooner than they should. It’s a delicate balance. The gear itself We use high-purity quartz because it lets the IR light through without fighting it. Some of the time, you’ll want a coated tube. These are great because they bounce the heat back toward the plastic instead of let it bake your machine frame. As for the fit? We keep it simple. We stick to standards like R7s or Sk15. No need to get out the wiring diagrams or rebuild the socket. You just pop the dead one out, slide the new one in, and you’re back in business. Buying smarter Sure, buying in bulk looks cheaper on paper. But quartz is fragile. The more you store in a warehouse, the higher the chance someone bumps a box and you’re left with a pile of expensive glass shards. We prefer a different approach. Instead of buying a three-year supply and hoping for the best, we use tiered pricing. You can scale your orders based on how fast you’re actually burning through lamps.
